How an Unmanned Padel Club Works

An unmanned padel club lets players book, pay, enter and play without a receptionist on site. A booking system sends the booking to access and lighting systems, so the right door opens and the right court lights up for the booked time. Unmanned doesn't mean unmanaged: someone must still handle cleaning, maintenance, support, safety and emergencies.

The flow from booking to locked door

Each step depends on the one before it, so test the whole journey, not just each device.

1. Book and pay

The player chooses a court and pays online. Your rules decide how early they can book and what happens if they cancel.

2. Receive access

The player gets a code, QR pass or app access that only works around the booked time. Each system handles this in its own way.

3. Enter

A reader checks the access and a controller releases the electronic lock. Kisi, an access-control vendor, describes readers, controllers and locks as the basic parts.

4. Lights and building systems

Lights switch on before play and off afterwards. Invisible Wires, an installer, describes adding margins before and after a booking, and syncing ventilation too.

5. Monitor

Staff or an alert service can see forced doors, failed connections and lights left on, and know who should respond.

6. Close and reset

Access expires, lights go off and the next booking begins. Someone should still check cleanliness, damage and any problems reported by players.

There is no best method for every club. Many sites combine a simple main method with a backup, so one failure doesn't stop people entering.

Playtomic's hardware article says Manager sends bookings to providers such as Smart Padel, QT System or Micro Solution, while lights and access are configured in the provider's panel. Its third-party integration article warns that unauthorized connections may stop working, so ask any developer how they are authorized.

A custom court booking system gives you more control, but you take on the build and must confirm hardware compatibility during scoping.

Compare the total with the cost of the shifts you would really remove and the extra hours you could really sell. A longer opening time only pays if players book it.

What happens when the internet or power fails?

This is the question to ask every supplier. Some systems keep working from stored bookings, and others depend on a live connection. Court Intel, for example, says its system holds the day's bookings at the venue. Confirm exactly how yours behaves, then test it.

Don't treat this as a software decision alone. Rules differ by country and building, so speak to your insurer, landlord, fire safety adviser, local authority and a legal adviser before you remove staff.
